Maryville College’s first victim of Spanish Flu was Jack Francis Kendall. He was trying was trying to recover from the flu in a house on Court Street with a private family but died after eleven days with the illness on October 28, 1918. He was born in Berry, Kentucky on January 8, 1902. When he passed, he had only been 15 years old. He entered Company B of Maryville’s military training programs, as he was too young to join the S.A.T.C. and was only able to participate for a small number of days until the campus went under quarantine.
