May Day would begin with a procession of the court, beginning with the attendants and ending with the Queen. Two children of the community would lead the whole procession, almost making it look like a wedding. The day would continue with a play of a fairy tale or folk theme concluding with girls dancing around a may pole. Take a look at this film footage from the 1950s. What would it have been like to see this in person?
