How to place an interlibrary loan request

Books and articles not available at the Maryville College Library may be requested from lending institutions through the Interlibrary Loan (ILL) process.

We do not fill requests for course textbooks or ebooks.

  • Hours:  Interlibrary loan services are available during regular library hours.  For assistance, please ask at the research assistance desk.

  • Interlibrary Loan Request Form:  If the item you find through MC Quest is not available in our library, under "access options", you will see a link to request the item through interlibrary loan. For items not found through MC Quest, fill out the online form.  Print forms are also available at the research assistance desk. The form must be completed accurately for each item requested.  Please provide as much information as possible in order to expedite ILL requests.  Please use one form per request.

  • Fees:   There is no fee for interlibrary loan requests.

  • Expected Arrival:  The amount of time it takes to receive ILL materials varies with each request.  Generally, journal articles can be expected between 1 to 7 days; books should arrive between 7 and 14 days.

  • Notification of Arrival:  Articles will be sent to your MC email. You will be notified via email when your book request is ready for pickup at the research assistance desk.

  • Loan Period:  The loan period for ILL books is determined by the loaning library.  ILL materials must be returned by the date indicated on the book band.

  • Fines:  There are no fines for overdue ILL materials.  However, failure to return ILL materials by the due date on two separate occasions will result in the revocation of interlibrary loan privileges. Failure to return ILL materials will result in a block on grades and transcripts.

  • Renewals:  If a renewal is needed, the requestor must notify the Interlibrary Loan Team three days before the due date. Renewals may be requested but are not guaranteed.

  • Recalls:  Books and other items borrowed through interlibrary loan are subject to immediate recall if requested by the lending library.

  • Replacement:  If an interlibrary loan item is lost, stolen, or damaged, the requestor must pay the replacement cost charged by the lending library.

  • Copyright:  The library complies with U.S. copyright restrictions and will not fill interlibrary loan requests that violate those regulations.

The library reserves the right to refuse interlibrary loan services to anyone who has abused Maryville College library privileges in the past.
